Anchor Bay Great Ships of the World

USCG 41' Utility Boat
Anchor Bay 112

Struggling to save his ship, the captain fought to secure the sails, losing the battle against the rolling waves. Though his experience is vast, common sense compels him to issue a mayday call to the United States Coast Guard. Once he reports his coordinates, the captain’s worries ease a bit, but he fears for his family, huddled below deck. Then without warning, his ship strikes a solid, unyielding rock, nearly throwing the captain from his perch. The dangerous situation has now turned deadly.
Bounding across the waters towards the ailing ship is a sleek, powerful vessel designed to save lives. With two, 4-blade propellers and 486 gallons of diesel aboard, this Utility Boat is more than an all-purpose vessel, it maneuvers brilliantly in almost any situation and can endure for 10 ½ hours .

Making their way at a top speed of 26 knots, the three-man crew demands most of the boat’s 318 horsepower to close the gap between the shore and the distressed sailboat. The crew onboard consists of a Coxswain, an Engineer and a Crewman ; each trained to excel in a perilous mission such as the one they are about to encounter.
As they approach the sailboat, it is obvious that the occupants are in dire straits. Water is freely washing over the deck as the five family members cling to the rigging and each other. The Coast Guard crew goes to work utilizing all of their extensive training in water rescue.

The three men of the Coast Guard worked together as a practiced team, to bring the sailboat’s occupants safely aboard the 41-Foot Utility Boat. The family is shivering and shaking, but is grateful to be alive. The 41-Foot can hold up to 20 passengers and can tow nearly 100 gross tons with its 600 feet of towline. But towing won’t be necessary today, as the wounded sailboat sinks below the surface.

The well-trained crew uses the fully stocked medical kit to provide care for the injured captain, and prepares the hypothermia bag for the youngest victim. Outfitted with an extremely accurate Global Positioning System (GPS), the 41-Foot Utility Boat heads straight to shore and safety.
For more than twenty years the 41-Footer has performed the majority of the Coast Guard’s rescue missions along our shores. Whether assisting lost boaters or cleaning up oil spills, the 41-Footer has been a reliable and critical part of the Coast Guard fleet.

Today, there are over 170 operational 41-Footers, poised to meet the call to duty and prepared to save lives under any circumstances, so that others may live.
